Let's Raise Awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness, in Honor of Savannah

The facts:

- 1 in 3 Texans will be a victim of domestic violence during their lifetime.

- There were 185 deaths at the hands of intimate partners 76% of victims of intimate partner violence are women

- Women in abusive relationships are 3.6 times more likely to be killed by an intimate partner immediately after leaving an abusive relationship than at any other time

- 6 homicide victims of intimate partner violence identified as LGBTQ+ (This number may be larger due to people not always disclosing sexual orientation, gender identity, and relationships)

Understanding of laws regarding domestic violence and sexual assault How to identify warning signs and what to do if you see warning signs Reinforcing healthy relationship behaviors such as healthy communication skills, establishing boundaries, peaceful conflict resolution, challenging risk factors, and promoting protective factors Provide safety planning skills, including technology safety How to be a support system to those experiencing domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a growing issue in Texas and in the nation. The goal is to bring awareness to this issue for all citizens, including children. This will be accomplished by spreading impactful messages through inclusive community education, conversations, presentations, and community events throughout October. We anticipate that this will lead to partnerships with schools, organizations, and other local, state, and national stakeholders
